Matches Activewear

Keeping fit is something we all focus on increasingly more to say the least on the turn of the new year. The attitude of almost every man alike shifts towards a healthier lifestyle and focus on improving body image and well-being. Getting fit is also part of an emotional journey. We focus on the minds attitude towards foods, our conscious external image and our ability to be able to run up an underground escalator without the feeling of grim reaper passing by upon reaching the summit.

One things for sure, running around the block in a pair of oil stained tracksuit bottoms and beat up sketchers is not the ideal workout look. We need clothes that make us feel positive and encouraged about getting fit, and the brands we know and love haven’t failed to deliver. Here are the latest and coolest sports and active wear collections you can get right now, come on what are you waiting for ?  –

M&S activewear
Marks and Spencer have also joined the list of high-street retailers to release a new active range. Their 19 piece collection runs almost parallel with River Island, making use of black and grey as their neutral base colours with hints of electric blue throughout. Once again, incorporating smart fabrics into their build, M&S has focused on three essential ingredients to great activewear; Moisture wicking fabrics to keep the wearer dry, stretch fabrics to ensure comfort and reflective trims for safety when training outdoors. 5 Independent Men’s Streetwear Brands that are going to Dominate 2017

WORDS BY BETH PEMBROKE

While the world gets over Christmas and saying a  good riddance to 2016, attention starts to move over to what the talk of the fashion world will be in the year to come! It’s always around this time that everyone starts discussing what the best and worst fashion movements of the past year, and predicting what will happen next year.

We love independent brands here. While there’s no denying top designers and big highstreets names give us a decent selection and choice, and provide us with most of what we need, independent brands give us that little something extra. Up and coming names provide us with something different – that not everyone will be wearing! 2017 is going to be another big year for some independent men’s clothing brands, because people are always looking for that extra something! So what men’s brands are going to dominate 2017…

Criminal Damage
This East London label was established in 1991, but it’s only been in the last few years that they’ve really started to take off. On a mission to add weight to the London streetwear scene, that is currently booming and gaining a buzz all around the world. Putting their unique take on streetwear, we can’t get enough of their collection of print T-shirts, sweatshirts and hoodies that covers the dark and sulky to the bright and bold. They are constantly evolving and receiving much acclaim from people for their forward thinking, affordable prices and fresh style.

Boy London
Founded in 1976, Boy London was loved by the underground, but frequently courted by an overground hungry for a piece of BOY’s trademark attitude. With a cult following, it returned in 2007 with its signature rebellious aesthetic printed across T-shirts and vests. It’s still a label that everyone wants in on. The purveyors of casual, cool style, Boy London build the foundation of a great off-duty wardrobe that will be a must-have in the coming year.

Blvck Clothing
Blvck Clothing are a lifestyle brand that offers simple, affordable clothing, and we predict 2017 to be its year! After launching in November 2007, founders Michael Yabut and Alfred De Tagle quickly acknowledged gap in the streetwear fashion market and developed a brand that underlined dark satanic imagery in its sweatshirts, tees, and hats. With designs inspired by religion, politics, identity and death, the brand aims to provoke a conversation between two people. After several celebrities having been spotted sporting the dark streetwear brand, it’s set to grow and grow this year.

Pieter
London-based designer Sebastiaan Pieter brings his assortment of contemporary menswear with a few subtle nods to gay culture. Men’s staples are decorated with gratuitous zippers and tongue-in-cheek slogans such “HH” (which we’re told stands for “high & horny”) – while a healthy dose of leather and nylon keep things masculine. Pieter describes his range as ‘a masculine look intended for a man who is aware of his body’. We expect to see it blowing up this year…

Off-White
Off-White has established itself as the go-to label for modern street fashion. Growing rapidly over the last year, Off-White bridges the gap between between the worlds of streetwear and high fashion. Founded by designer Virgil Abloh, Off-White studies concepts of branding and youth culture in the contemporary moment, translating timely inspirations such as typography and emotionally suggestive prints in his collections.

The Perfect Replacement to the Christmas Jumper

Words by Charlie Britton

The Christmas jumper. Oh what a sight to see. Some may say it’s a seasonal staple or a traditional Christmas law that we must abide, and I for one cannot stand it! (Bah Humbug!)
Don’t get me wrong. I love Christmas. Sitting around the table with the loved ones, wearing silly hats and accidentally ‘Christmas cracking’ a nail clipper into your food. Drinking sherry although secretly we hate it and heating up wine like it’s the smart thing to do… I mean yeah, we’re quite strange in our traditions but I for one wouldn’t change them for the world. Except Christmas knitwear. Why do we do this to ourselves?

Here at Clothes Make The Man, I’d say we’re split on our thoughts with regards to Yuletide sweaters, but I’m going to take you through some perfect examples of how to strut that Crimbo spirit, without the fashion faux pas!

christmas hats m&s
These guys are from this years Marks and Spencer’s Winter range. Okay, admittedly the pudding beanie is a bit out there, but it’s an accessory so it’s okay! Don’t fancy sporting a pudding on your pudding? Opt for the Fair Isle knitted beanie, a nice accessory to keep your head warm and fit in with the Christmas colours.

john lewis jumpers
It seems the Fair Isle design has taken centre stage this Christmas with John Lewis  and they’re collection of Winter wools. Both of these jumpers are fit for the occasion, with the Fair Isle jumper taking a slightly more ‘Christmassy’ swing. Alternatively, opt for this chunky red cable zip jumper, something which you could rock all winter without turning too many heads.

factface socks xmas
A subtle pair of socks is definitely an option for those who want to keep it extra low key! Fat Face have a great selection of Christmas socks, in a range of different colours. These two are definitely my favourite, and the remain quite neutral as far as socks go. Of course, if you want a pair with a bit more personality, have a look at their ‘Not just for Christmas’ socks.

Debenhams tiesOf course I couldn’t forget a good ol’ Christmas tie. Debenhams has a huge range of Christmas ties, some slightly louder then others but hey, each to their own right! These two guy are my favourite as they both wear the Christmas season colours, but still say ‘Hey, I mean business!’. The red Lands End tie sports a snowflake pattern on a silk and wool fabric, but the blue The Collection tie wins for it for me as everyone needs Rudolph at Christmas, but please keep the reindeer jumper in the wardrobe!

christmas jumpers
Lastly, if you really cant imagine a Christmas without one, have a gander of this years Christmas jumper range at Topman. They have a pretty witty selection of Xmas prints to get you through the holiday season, and to be quite honest, I kinda’ like them.. Yeah, that’s right, I like a Christmas jumper! My favourite has to be the Sleigh My Name jumper, it’s hilariously witty and beautifully black, proving you don’t need red’s and greens to pull of a Crimbo knit. I’ve also picked out the Christmas Jumpers Are Dead knit for those of you who would happily strut your inner Grinch. It’s still fabulously festive and I really can’t help but love the irony.

On a last note Gents, if you’re sporting a festive jumper this Christmas, get involved with Christmas Jumper Day. It’s in aid of Save The Children, and every little really does help. You can read more about it here – About Christmas Jumper Day – and see how lives are being transformed across the world. Let’s get silly for a serious cause.
