Screen Shot 2013-09-30 at 16.34.29On our continuing quest to find great outlets for menswear on the world wide web, we came across this gem in Galvin for Men, an Irish based emporium with a no nonsense approach which is soooo refreshing. Their philosophy is simple, they believe in Quality products, Quality service and a Quality Platform on which to present on, what more could you ask for ?

They offer a real nicely curated buy of brands, supporting the specialist manufacturer while also offering some great global brands. They pride themselves on their balance between believing not only in great products and brands but also in reflecting fashion design and innovation. Of course you have the favourites of Hugo Boss, Polo Ralph lauren, Lyle & Scott Vintage, G-Star  and Tommy Hilfiger, but also products and labels of artisan craftsmanship and exceptional quality such as Inis Meain Knitwear, Nudie Denim jeans and Red Wing Boots.

Their Store based in Mulligar, Co Westmeath, Eire offers a laid back and down to earth attitude, where the customers are relaxed when browsing and the staff try to ensure you a  memorable shopping experience. They are on hand to offer assistance and sound  advice, plus you’re safe in knowing that because they know their customer so well, their product knowledge is first class. This service and knowledge was something that was forefront when the e-commerce site launched in 2011.

I wanna do whatever Common People do – Common People

Common People 3 AW13Common People is essentially Kestin Hare, who cut his creativity teeth as Head of Design for the master of Outerwear Nigel Cabourn. Throughout his time here he never lost sight or love of his home town of Edinburgh and so after fifteen years of working for other people, he decided to return to Scotland create his own label and raise a family in his home town of Edinburgh.

Hare wanted to create a menswear brand that fused his love of Vintage and quality menswear into something of his very own, manufactured in the UK and was affordable to people with a common interest in quality menswear and this was the birth of Common People.

Common People is designed for people with a common interest in premium clothing and footwear. Common People represents a movement back to provenance and focuses on premium quality, craftsmanship and local sourcing to create a contemporary product with identity.

Common People AW13 jpgFor Autumn Kestin has drawn inspiration from some key vintage finds from the Prohibition era,  which influence the collections key shapes and details. The signature CP workwear blazer reinvents itself in pinstriped wool with matching cinch back, railroad trousers. The brands classic Mackinaw and Norfolk jackets are fabricated in a knitted woven style ushering a new direction into traditional styles for this season.

The heritage elements of the collection are combined with technical nylons, which reflect a contrasted sportswear feel. The bonded mac stands out with its electric blue neoprene lining whilst the short technical parkas add a new feel to the brand and collection.

Further to this the brand recently opened a flagship store in Edinburgh, no surprises there. The store is located in the unique destination area of Stockbridge and is nestled between contemporary interior boutiques, barbers shops, and the best cocktail bars and delis. The store interior has a minimal luxe feel with bold industrial features including original lighting design by Hare constructed from reclaimed bed frames, and a beautiful salvaged stainless steel table. This merging of clean lines with vintage also mirrors the signature style of Common People – modern heritage.

What the Hervia is all this about ? Hervia the Designer shopping Mecca

Screen Shot 2013-09-10 at 18.48.07Like so many successful e-tailers today, Hervia are no longer constrained to the confines of their brick and mortar store they started out their business in. Thanks to the miracle of the information Super highway, they can now reach out to a much wide, international and diverse consumer market.

Hervia, was founded in 1993 by Oscar Pinto where his first shop was opened in Manchester’s notoriously up market Royal Exchange as a trailblazing concept that was the first to stock debut collections from the late Alexander McQueen, as well as Helmut Lang and Hussein Chalayan.

Screen Shot 2013-09-10 at 18.48.12Named after Pinto’s mother, Hervia, soon became a legendary fashion hang-out and it wasn’t long before the store was named by Vogue as one of the UK’s finest designer stores, so not a bad testimonial.

The aim of Hervia.com is to promote high-end fashion and British design talent to a worldwide clientele. It is here you’ll find aspirational and cutting edge designer clothing for both men and women, (plus promises of a kidswear site coming soon, but keep that to yourself) that have been chosen for their outstanding design quality, exclusivity and above all, because they should make the wearer feel totally amazing, surely the best part of investing in designer clothes. Pinto works to an ethos that there are always good price point items in his stores and that even the high price ticket items are value for money and can be treasured for longer than one season.

The site boasts an eclectic and unique collection of such brands including former Textual Conversation participant Christopher Raeburn, Carven, Comme des Garcons, Sibling and Thom Browne to literally name but a few. The Gift Ideas section of the website is ideal for those notoriously difficult people to buy for, offering fun and interesting ideas that should suit most budgets and have the recipient agog with delight.

All Good in the Hood – The Goodhood Store launches its own Clothing line

Screen Shot 2013-08-12 at 17.42.14The Goodhood Store labels itself as a style retailer rather than a fashion retailer. Unlike many of its counterparts it isn’t led by what they deem as fickle passing trends. Goodhood is a truly independent store offering carefully selected goods for the independent mind. It opened its doors in 2007, with a mission to showcase select goods from across the globe. This ‘curational style of buying’ was rooted in design, quality and creativity; and as an ethos has stuck with the store ever since. Over the years the Goodhood name has built a cult creative following and a global reputation for it’s pioneering approach to retail, with ‘curation’ at the epi- centre of everything they do. Founders Jo Sindle and Kyle Stewart’s design backgrounds are evident throughout the store.

The labels and goods carried in-store and online offer a spirit of maturity to the streetwear market, providing customers with a sartorial selection of desirable goods. Brands stocked range from the more well known such asVans, Retro Super Future, Norse Projects, Neighborhood, Surface To Air & Comme De Garcon, down to local, and not so local, independent labels such as Aries, Lonely Hearts and Gasius to name a few.

So after five years after it’s conception and a successful number of design collaborations with the likes of Norse Projects, Soulland & Paul Smith’s R.Newbold the Goodhood team decided to channel their creative energy behind a collection of premuim branded goods, of their own. With the anticipated launch of its own menswear line ‘GOODS’ dropping this August, as well as the the recent opening of The Goodhood Life store located across the street. This new offering presents a prime selection of ‘lifestyle’ goods, from stationary to lighting, homeware and accessories; all fitting synonomosly within the GOODHOOD ideals.

To mark the imminent release, Goodhood Creative have released this preview short film. Shot on location in London this summer, the film shows Yo Yo champion CJ Garner exhibiting his talents.
