How often should you REALLY wash your clothes?

New research by Bosch reveals the nation’s attitudes towards repeat wear wardrobes

With laundry ranking typically low on most people’s list of favourite household chores, new data from Boschsheds a fresh light on the public’s attitude towards dodging the wash basket. Interestingly, men are more likely than women to feel self-conscious, dirty or embarrassed about wearing a top without washing.

Men admitted to wearing underwear two times before throwing them in the wash. Whilst this level of hygiene may be questioned by some, women aren’t totally in the clear either wearing their bras an average of eight times, despite men thinking they’re washed after two!

58% of Brits said that they have no problem with other people re-wearing items multiple days in a row, despite a quarter feeling dirty themselves.

However, one in ten women confessed to being worried about a peer’s welfare if spotted re-wearing items too frequently. Men exercised a bit more leniency, with just one in twenty owning up to the same thought.

With so many hang-ups, Bosch has also set out to get to the bottom of what drives us to feel this way. Almost one quarter of people revealed they feel pressure from society to look presentable and 16% believe a second wear could leave a bad impression.

There’s no easy way to spin it, these pressures are causing us to wash clothes more frequently than is necessary, resulting in potentially avoidable environmental impact.

As the climate crisis escalates, most people are starting to think about how they can weave sustainability into their everyday activities. With this in mind, 27% of Brits often consider the environment when doing their laundry, though 18% still admit to putting a wash on, even if the machine isn’t full.

The Ultimate Sneaker Book by Simon Wood (2018)

This book was recommended by a friend of mine who shares an equally big love for sneakers/trainers as I do. Written and constructed by Simon Wood, the founder of sneaker well-known publication Sneaker Freaker, the 650+ page sneaker bible provides an unrivalled deep-dive into the vast history of sneakers. From Start to Finish.

The book features details on how some of the most iconic sneakers came to be, from the entire Nike lineage to Reebok, New Balance and Adidasmost iconic silhouettes. Tonnes of nostalgic campaigns from the 80s to present day are featured through the book, the interviews with the designers and collectors is what adds to make this book so great.

It also looks cracking on a coffee table. A must read for anyone who wants to either take a trip down memory lane, or learn more about how the global sneaker culture came to be.

Frederick Grove – Eternity Signet 

Item number two of my recent purchases is this silver ring from eponymous London based jewellery brand Frederick Grove.

I actually discovered Fredereick Grove on Instagram a year ago and ordered a different ring online to the one shown below, but its actually going to the showroom where you get a proper feel for what the guys there are all about.

Nestled in a tucked away corner on Brick Lane in Shoreditch (having to be buzzed in through a private gate). The showroom displays all of the jewellery in a way truly authentic the the unique aesthetic of the brand, which feels very late 1800s.

The rings and necklaces are all made on the same-site as the showroom and visible next to the till with Frederick himself assisting you where he can. If your ever wandering around the area id definitely recommend popping in.

Comme Des Garcons x Nike Air Max 95 

Something which I am yet to purchase but hoping to this weekend  down to the fact they are these CDG Air Max 95s.

Founded by iconic Japanese designer Rei Kawakubo, Comme Des Garcons has garnered serious respect from the fashion industry and its loyal followers since its creation. The success can largely be  attributed to popularity of its diverse product lines which include CDG PLAY, CDG SHIRT, CDG Fragrance, CDG Wallet and CDG Homme. As well as ownership of its own global concept retailer Dover Street Market.

The family tree of CDG x Nike sneakers is growing quickly, with a new shoe guaranteed almost  each season. CDG have been given seemingly free rein to collaborate on any given silhouette.

Previous link ups include 2017 VaporMax, 2018 Supreme Air Force 1, 2019 Presto, 2019 Shox TL and my personal favourite the 2017 Nike Dunk High. One thing you can guarantee with a Comme Des Garcon x Nike collab is that 9 times out of 10 the result will be a complete re-structure of the given silhouette.

Whilst this Air Max 95 is a little more conservative in its make-up when compared to previous collaborations. The exposed overspill of excess material featured throughout the entire upper looks super slick. Especially in triple black.

5 SIMPLE WAYS TO DETOX YOUR SKIN IN THE NEW YEAR

Health and Wellness in Five Easy Actions

Your health isn’t something your primary care provider has control over. Sure, they can check your weight and blood pressure, and they can even put you on medication to control health problems. What they can’t do, however, is ensure that you make good decisions that perpetuate health. However, you can. With that being said, here are five things you can do every day to be a better you on the inside as well as the outside.

Feed Yourself Well

You already know that the food you put into your body has an impact on your weight. However, that’s not all that nutrition affects. What you eat is broken up by the body, and your food’s nutrients are routed to every system. Eating enough calcium, for example, can improve your bones and teeth. A diet rich in antioxidant foods may actually lessen your chances of cancer. Further, every bite you intake has influence over your gut microbiome, which is a tiny universe inside of you. The organisms — bacteria, fungi, viruses — that live there play a role in your overall health, from your immune system to your ability to emotionally self-regulate.

Exercise

Just as important as what you put into your body is how you work your body. Exercise is a crucial component of health, and it’s something you should prioritize every day. And if you are a senior, strength training, balance exercises, and other forms of physical fitness might even help lower your chances of being injured in a falling accident.

Keep yourself motivated by investing in some tech. Using a fitness tracker allows you to set goals and track your progress. Keep Your Body Clean

Emotions are complex. And we often fear them for reasons, including concern about social acceptance or giving off the appearance of weakness. However, when you avoid your emotions, whether positive or negative, you do your body and mind an injustice. First, when we spend so much time avoiding emotions, we put ourselves into a fierce cycle. This can cause stress, which releases adrenaline and cortisol into our bodies. While these hormones serve an important purpose, when we are exposed to them all the time, we can suffer physically and mentally. Instead of hiding behind a fake smile, learn to experience your emotions. Laugh, smile, cry, shout – whatever you need to do to digest and work through your feelings.

The above advice can set you on a positive track where your health is concerned. It is not a full listing of everything you need to live your best life, but it can get you going, and the starting point is your first step toward mastering your own health.
