10 Reasons Why Men Are Turning to Plastic Surgery

Words by Peter Minkoff

Plastic surgery has been one of the most popular ways of changing yourself for several years now. Something that has been considered taboo, and even some sort of embarrassment in the past, has now become a thing that a big percentage of people opt for. However, even though this was an area that was reserved for women only, more and more men opt to get their nose fixed, Botox injected in their faces, and even for breast reduction and liposuction. This is still considered to be quite a peculiar thing in many parts of the world, but it is high time we killed those prejudices. Take a look at the ten most important reasons why guys tend to undergo different plastic surgeries:

#1 Nothing’s for girls or boys

It is 2020 and that means that it really is time we stopped using “boyish” and “girly” as adjectives for things. Why would certain colors be for girls and others for boys? Why practice toxic masculinity? The same goes for different activities, plastic surgery included. Women and men both want to change things about their body and they should definitely feel encouraged to do so if they want to.

#2 It’s available

Somebody is given a chance to change something about their body that they do not like, and they can do that almost on every corner – so why shouldn’t they? It is not the ‘80s and ‘90s anymore, the era where you had to work really hard to find the best professional for the job. The times have changed, and not only do you have plenty of amazing doctors, but you can also choose the clinic you want to go to based on the different prices that they offer.

#3 You can literally choose anything

Apart from the regular surgeries that include a nose job or liposuction, there are other invasive and non-invasive plastic surgeries that guys can choose from. So, basically, there is an array of options and yes, you can change anything that you do not like about yourself. If you think you’re getting older and you do not like the state of your skin, you can always turn to options such as ultherapy skin tightening that will make you look younger and more fresh. If, on the other hand, you have unwanted fat on your belly that you want to get rid of, you can also turn to different types of liposuction.

#4 It is not only about fillers and Botox

Plastic surgery, as mentioned before, doesn’t have to be invasive, as there are other ways to do this as well. Even though it is not actually plastic surgery, any men can turn to different options if they have issues with hair. On the one side, there is the option of laser hair removal for men, especially if they have unwanted hair on different body parts that they want to get rid of. On the other hand, if they have trouble with hair loss, they can also undergo the microscalping treatment – a form of a permanent tattoo that will make hair thicker.

#5 It boosts your confidence

Looking good equals feeling good, and we know that from the beginning of time. How many times has it happened to you that you look full of yourself once you get out of the barber’s or hairstylist’s? The same goes for plastic surgery as it will change an important feature on your body that you always disliked.

#6 Age doesn’t matter

Another reason why men turn to plastic surgery is that literally anyone can do it, regardless of their age. Young men can opt for plastic surgery that will either change a specific feature of their face or body, while older men will turn to Botox or fillers in order to make their skin look younger and more fresh. It is estimated that the majority of men who undergo plastic surgery are aged from 27 to 54, with instances of younger and older people as well.

#7 It saves time on gym

Since we live in a very fast-paced world, we always tend to find different ways to save time. So, instead of going to the gym every other day and prepping the meals in advance, plenty of men opt for liposuction, which is one of the most popular surgeries amongst men (research showed that out of all the liposuction procedures in 2018, 80% were conducted on men).

#8 It also saves time for other things

On the other hand, there are also guys who really pay attention to the way their face looks like. Plucking eyebrows is, for example, one of the things that are becoming more and more popular among men as well. For them, there is also the option of either opting for fillers or Botox that will make that part of their face friendlier and more handsome, while there is also the option of undergoing a procedure of permanent makeup.

#9 It’s Instagrammable

This might not seem like an actual reason for getting plastic surgery for many people, but we live in the 21st century, and there are plenty of guys from the younger generation who really pay attention to their online persona. For them, opting for plastic surgery is one way of making their Instagram profile much more interesting and prettier, and if this is the case – so be it. Influencers really do earn a lot of money nowadays, and it is definitely a profession of tomorrow. Who wants to stand between a guy and his happiness, no matter what that happiness is?

#10 It makes you feel good

Finally, if this is a thing that makes a person happier, why not do it? It doesn’t matter if it’s “girly”, or if it boosts their ego or not, or if it saves time on other things – if this activity in particular makes a person believe in himself more, they should definitely opt for any surgery that they want.

However, with all this having been said, it is very important to know how to choose your plastic surgeon and the clinic you want to have the procedure at. Some places are more expensive than others but this is not an issue that you want to save money on. So, if you’re a guy and you want to change something – feel free to do it. There’s nothing to be embarrassed of!
