“Through Struggles to the Stars” – 100 years of the RAF

2018 marks the centenary of the Royal Air Force (RAF). The RAF was formed on 1 April 1918, at a time when aviation was still in its infancy. As the world’s first independent air force, the RAF has set the standards for other nations to follow. The RAF Roundel is recognised around the world as being synonymous with capability, courage and innovation.

The RAF is rightly proud of its illustrious history of excellence in delivering air and space power, and of the men and women who are central to our many achievements

In this centennial year, a number of brands have respectfully worked in collaboration to mark this milestone. Firstly, Breitling and the Royal Air Force  have released a limited edition collection of four iconic aviation timepieces which include the Navitimer (25 pieces), Avenger II (100 pieces), Aerospace Evo (100 pieces) and Colt Skyracer (100 pieces).

As a proud official partner to the RAF, Breitling will donate proceeds from the sale of the timepieces to the RAF100 Appeal which is a joint venture between the Royal Air Force and four major RAF charities – the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund, the Royal Air Forces Association, the Royal Air Force Charitable Trust and the Royal Air Force Museum. The aim of the Appeal is to raise money for the RAF Family and to create a lasting legacy.

Also, Globe-Trotter pays tribute to the Royal Air Force’s Centenary Year by releasing a NEW RAF100 collection inspired by the aircraft and pilots who have served the force past and present.
The striking new collection is an innovative and unique range of luggage, designed to accompany RAF pilots on mission flights and training. Marking a departure from Globe-Trotter’s conventional design, the case features a robust aluminium shell on their iconic vulcanised fibreboard and has been specially designed to open lengthways, enabling you to easily reach inside the case while it is upright. Adorning the surface of each case, two lines of rivets echo the design of the motifs seen on RAF aircraft, and the design is completed with the iconic RAF heraldic insignia.

Once again pushing the boundaries of luggage innovation, the new collection features brand new corner wheels and an internal handle system on the 20” trolley case as well as TSA-approved locks, making the range compact, hard-wearing and lightweight – perfect for any maiden voyage.
