Well if we are to believe certain sections of the media and the good folks over at the Met Office “Winter is coming”, well to quote countless characters from Game of Thrones. They are predicting the coldest Winter on record and those plummeting temperatures we be with us far sooner than later. So we better wrap up and what better way then getting some of the Best Brains in the history of Menswear Buying to predict their best Winter coats of the season. I think you’ll be rather surprised by the outcome and choices, but some clear and defiant examples are given which I hope, help you dear reader. We set them the question of, “If you were to buy ONE coat this season, what would it be ?” And the answers were as follows??????
“This sweet overcoat from our second collaboration with Harris Tweed is pretty cool in pink. The melange wool fabric gives a warm textured look, and the simple styling with well-proportioned lapels is versatile. You can wear it smart with a crew neck knit and shoes or casual with a hoody, slim jeans and sneakers. A classic style that will last a good few seasons.”Danny Tudor-Jones, Head of Buying, Asos
“Its looking like we are finally in for a cold winter this year that means you can go full tilt for shearling. The Idle Man Ginger Shearling Jacket is an absolute piece. Proper full shearling, made in London on Bethnal Green Road. We wanted to make one that was top quality but not silly money so we kept the numbers tight. We’ve nearly sold out so get going…”Thom Scherdel, Buyer, TheIdle Man.
“Parka’s continue as a key trend this season, with a statement faux fur tim hood key to the look. A favourite for me this season is from The North Face, which is an exciting new brand launch for House of Fraser this year, and combines style and warmth for the winter ahead.” Ross Wilson, Head of Buying – Menswear & Mens Accessories, House of Fraser
The coat of the season for me is this Balenciaga double breasted coat. I’m really into the oversized silhouette at the moment and this is the perfect piece to tap into this. It’s a coat which I’ll take with me from season to season. I’m really looking forward to wearing it. Dean Cook, Menswear Buying Manager, Browns
