Look cool but feel warm – 6 of the best Winter Camo

Camouflage is either a massive do or don’t in fashion nowadays, with those who wear it best absolutely killing it. Thanks to the uprise of streetwear the stereotype of the army has been completely flipped with some of the best outfits consisting of ‘Camo’ cargo bottoms, as well as brands such as Supreme and Carhartt WIP releasing pieces inspired by the staple garment.

However, from the original Camouflage the birth of new colourways including vibrant colours such as pinks and yellows have become frequently seen, now one of the more popular colourways is the winter Camouflage consisting of whites, greys and blacks, which this season are proving to be incredibly popular. The brands highlighting this current trend include brands such as Canada Goose, Russell & Bromley, Sandro, The Northface; all showcasing multiple products of interest to a wide audience, however, the winter camouflage is a pattern, which goes with all different types of clothing silhouette and is a wonderful look for a casual day.

However we understand that this specific print isn’t for everybody, however, we fully endorse that you go camo this season…

Canada Goose – Men’s Expedition Parka

Rusell & Bromley – ‘Dolce’ Buckle and Keeper Belt

Sandro – Future Camouflage-Print Jogging Bottoms

Traditional British Garms For The Modern Man – Garbstore Collection AW17

by Keanu Adorable

London based brand/shop Garbstore have released their new AW17 men’s collection, Garbstore takes reference from the early 1900’s British newspaper ‘Sunday Dispatch’ to create a collection that pays homage to WWII’s soldier’s uniforms and casual wear in the poignant post-war period. Oversized silhouettes and boxy shapes are reminiscent of surplus military clothing after the wars and provide an extra layer of authenticity to the collection. Enzyme washed garments and Japanese reproductions of vintage cloth allow a true sense of a newly constructed past. Vintage sportswear is reinterpreted in hardwearing materials, elevating it to a new level.

The Bren Vest, which pays homage to military wear of bygone years is layered with our Classic Flight Shirt for a true utilitarian look. Hiking influences are introduced through discreet detailing and fabrications. The APS Trench – a fresh take on the sartorial classic, is reinterpreted the Garbstore way with the addition of sportswear pockets and playful proportions. Japanese craftsmanship and materials continue to play a profound influence and are evident in the Easy Hoody – cut using a Kimono pattern, whilst the Tomo Jacket is inspired by American military and Japanese service wear.

Innovative techniques for knitwear are employed for the first time. Garbstore has worked with an English mill to twist yarns especially to create a static effect as seen in the Tri-Boston Sweater and the newly launched range of socks, made from alpaca for the ultimate in comfort.

For AW17, Garbstore has collaborated with Japanese accessories brand Sanpak to re-create three exclusive styles. Going since the 1950’s and supplying the Japanese Forces all the while, Sanpak bags utilise military spec nylon and hardware. The Garbstore x Sanpak capsule collection takes original 1970’s silhouettes and re-imagines them in modern tonal suede and Cordura nylon.

Situated in the heart of Notting Hill, Garbstore launched to critical acclaim in 2008 as is now firmly established as one of London’s best menswear shopping destinations. and as of September this year, the expansion of the brand has seen the opening of Garbstore.ten, a store located in London’s Seven Dials which was created to celebrate a decade since the brand’s inception.

Reliving an Elite Rivalry – Diadora B.Elite trainer

Words by Keanu Adorable

Italian footwear brand Diadora is a renowned brand when it comes to tennis gear, and tennis legend Bjorn Borg is the brand’s most iconic figurehead. Diadora is famed for being the brand of choice of Bjorn Borg dating back to 1981, Diadora designed the B.Elite (the B stands for Borg) silhouette for Bjorn and is one of the most celebrated tennis shoes ever made.
With the release of the movie Borg vs McEnroe hitting the big screen later this month on the 22nd, it seems only fitting that the iconic B.Elite style, instrumental within the sporting history of that decade is enjoying a resurgence amongst sports fans and hipsters alike. known for his on-court outbursts, LaBeouf’s depiction of former World No. 1 tennis player John Mcenroe, is not to be missed. The actor even made a comparison stating that both him and McEnroe are “passionate, perfectionist, narcissistic.”  The plot follows the pair’s iconic battles in the tennis court throughout the ’70s and ’80s, which eventually culminated in the 1980 Wimbledon Men’s Singles final — a match viewed by some as the greatest ever. McEnroe’s legendary “You can not be serious!” rant occurred the following year in a match at the same tournament. Watch the trailer below:

The B.Elite shoes are available in various designs and colours for both men and women, to browse the collection on line click here.

Introducing ARKET – H&M’s Latest Creation

Words by Charlie Britton

When it comes to clothes shopping, a favourite and must-visit store on the majority of peoples lists is H&M. The Swedish clothing giant operates in 62 countries, with 6 other brands operating under the H&M group umbrella. These are COS, Monki, Cheap Monday, & Other Stories, Weekday and its newest member, ARKET.

As the second largest clothing retail company worldwide just behind Spain-based Inditex, who are responsible for the likes of Zara, H&M group has well established its name in the industry and is showing no signs of slowing down any time soon. The introduction of ARKET proves that the fashion brand still has more to give and we’re excited to see what the future holds for the Swedish clothing company.

Introducing ARKET

arket regent street store

ARKET, meaning ‘sheet of paper’ in Swedish, has launched it’s first store at 224 Regent Street in London, next door to H&M group’s first British based Weekday store which also opened its doors just weeks ago. ARKET’s offerings include menswear, womenswear, kids and home products, tailored towards the modern-day individual. It’s mission is to ‘democratise quality through widely accessible, well-made, durable products, designed to be used and loved for a long time.’

To fully understand the brand, we went down to the ARKET store in London to view the store concept and products offerings. The store looks great and strongly represents a Nordic style of living. The minimal colour palettes used throughout the interior work well by giving the products the limelight and the shelving and furnishings are well fitted, contemporary and functional.

arket interior regent street
The new Regent Street store occupies 2 stories of an old department store corner building, incorporating womenswear and kids on the upper floor and menswear, homeware and even an ARKET cafe on the ground floor. The character of the building only complements the brand, reinforcing a Scandinavian style of living. This is again exaggerated in-store with the use of lifestyle elements, design details and products that fit with the brands unique selling point.

The Product

With offerings from other brands such as COS, H&M and Weekday, we were keen to see what ARKET could bring to the table in terms of originality and design. Weekday tailors towards the younger generation, with a focus on modern and mindful fashion. COS heads upmarket slightly, offering modern, functional and considered design. Both brands are heavily influenced by Scandinavian design, so we expected to see a similar approach with ARKET.

The product is very much similar, but different, in respect to COS. Its almost as if COS have taken its more formal collections and products and expanded this into its own brand. The price point is again very similar to COS, however ARKET stocks several other brands and produces slightly more expensive garments, especially in regards to outerwear.

Arket menswear

The majority of the mens, womens and kids collections are very simplistic, minimal and contemporary in design. The clothes work well as essential pieces, however it would also be very easy to build a wardrobe from the brand. Block colours, tailored fits and on-trend details run throughout the menswear collections, making it easy to build stylish and flattering outfits that’ll work well through the seasons.

The homeware products are what we would expect from a Scandinavian brand. Functional, aesthetically pleasing and well designed are words that come to mind, with colours, materials and silhouettes strongly representing a Nordic style of design used throughout. There are definitely some homeware products we would love on our shelves at home and in the office, so it’s worth checking them out if you’re planning on redecorating anytime soon.

arket lifestyle

ARKET plans to expand its store offerings across Europe, with another UK based store opening in Covent Garden in the coming months. Here at Clothes Make The Man, we’re excited to see how this brand moves forward and encourage you to check out a store soon. Alternatively, the brand is of course available to purchase online at ARKET, so pay it a visit to check out the collections for yourself.
