The Emperor’s New Trainers – NikeLab Dunk Hi X Comme Des Garçons “Invisible Shoes”

by Keanu Adorable

NikeLab has partnered with the Japanese designer brand COMME des GARÇONS to recreate a classic Nike silhouette and following its showcase at the COMME des GARÇONS Homme Plus show last October, the “invisible” Nike Lab Dunk Hi is finally being released.

Dubbed the ‘invisible shoes’, the Dunk Hi appears to draw inspiration from Hans Christian Andersen’s cult classic tale about a sorely misled emperor in search of a new wardrobe. The new release aims to address the common misconception that invisibility and transparency are one in the same.

An edgy mix of black leather and clear PVC paired with accents of comfort foam, the shoes are designed with holes for ventilation to ensure maximum breathability. While not completely “invisible,” the side panels and toebox of this NikeLab Dunk Hi allow for some serious look at what’s inside, so be careful when choosing your socks in the morning. What’s great about this feature is, this transparent look allows for those crazy patterned pairs in your drawer to shine through.

The collaboration with COMME des GARÇONS is the second basketball collaboration from Nike this month, released exclusively at the COMME des GARÇONS store in New York.

ST VALENTINE’S DAY GIFT GUIDE BOUGHT TO YOU BY ROTARY WATCHES

“Love has no other desire but to fulfill itself.
But if you love and must needs have desires, let these be your desires:
To melt and be like a running brook that sings its melody to the night.
To know the pain of too much tenderness.
To be wounded by your own understanding of love;
And to bleed willingly and joyfully.
To wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving;
To rest at the noon hour and meditate love’s ecstasy; to return home at eventide with gratitude;
And then to sleep with a prayer for the beloved in your heart and a song of praise upon your lips.”

The Prophet (1923) by poet, writer, artist, and philosopher Khalil Gibran.

A suitable tale – Noose & Monkey

British brand Noose & Monkey are determined to make an impact and are a brand that not only oozes individuality, but really want to breaks the mould when it comes to contemporary tailoring.

Their brand name comes from a story of mistaken identity and disguise. During the Napoleonic wars, the crew of a French naval vessel dressed their pet monkey in an officers uniform. After being shipwrecked off Hartlepool, the monkey was discovered on the beach. The locals, assuming, honestly, he was a Frenchman and therefore the enemy, hung him in the town square, well when he didn’t say much.

They concept is to focus on the two sides, the noose and the monkey, of every story and every man, and to play with twisting those sides.

Now entering into there seventh season the brand is stocked online and across the globe in ASOS, Zalando and De Bijenkorf, as well Topman online and new retail concept ‘AGE OF NOW’ situated online and in selected House of Fraser stores.

For Spring 17 they promise this collection to be the biggest, boldest collection yet ! So whether it is your wedding, birthday night out, the biggest cocktail party of the Summer or the end of year school prom, there is something for every occasion and every piece a head turner. Their staple suits are back with a burst of colour this summer season; bright pink, wine & pistachio amongst many other colours of the 3 piece Ellroy (featuring the signature horseshoe waistcoat) will be released throughout the season. So perfect for the more peacocks amongst us.

Their bestselling ‘Ginsberg’ tartan suit has also had a New Year makeover; renamed the ‘Hogarth’ and released in a brand-new burgundy/navy colourway. Along with the continued classic green/navy tartan, there will be restocks – by popular demand.

So from the vibrantly coloured 2 piece suits to crocodile and snake skin blazer designs, velvet is a huge story for the season. Already proving to be one of the season’s best sellers is the ‘Pollock’ velvets. Available as standalone blazers or paired up with matching trousers in 4 different colours; burgundy, pink, ice blue and duck egg. Featuring a shawl lapel and super soft velvet exterior, this is an eveningwear essential.

But it’s not just formal on the Noose & Monkey agenda, following the huge demand for their leather and bomber jackets of Autumn 2015, Noose & Monkey are revisiting casual wear for Spring 17 in a big way.

Three new versatile velvet bombers will be landing this season. The ‘Monet’ a gold, crushed velvet jacket along with their signature moody burgundy and black flocking print, the bombers are already causing a storm online. Not to be missed! And who would with prices from £40 to £165, everyone’s a winner, literally.
