Survival of the fittest – Natural Selection

imageNatural Selection found life back in 2009, when John Park sought inspiration from Charles Darwin’s book ‘Origin of Species by way of Natural Selection’ the brand was conceived on the notion of constant evolution in a highly competitive world. Starting as a denim brand, and using only Japanese selvedge, Natural Selection marries modern silhouettes and finishing techniques to authenticity and high-fidelity construction.

imageFor this season Natural Selection throughly embraces the chaos and energy of artist Tim Woolcock, a latter day proponent of the St Ives School of Painting, to create a collection of non–linear abstraction. Following the architecturally design  collection for last season, where irregularity was introduced through peppered tweeds, flecked chambrays and an errant polka dot motif. The shirting, shorts and sweaters feel sportier whilst silhouettes retain their clean, vertical lines.

The colour palette of the collection of blue, grey and stone are reminiscent of Woolcock’s work and compliment the crisp, uncluttered essence of the clothing. The brand continuously strives to challenge the norms of garment construction and craftsmanship with details such as buttons, pockets and seams concealed to produce flawless design with no compromise on functionality.

imageProving its survival and even triving, later this month the brand open it’s first flagship store, on London’s Monmouth Street. Offering the discerning consumer the opportunity to shop both ready to wear and the extensive denim range, the Natural Selection store will also have curated collections from specially sourced designers; namely No.288 footwear from New York and Parisian eyewear brand Thierry Lasry. Cosmetics from Dr Jackson’s all-natural skincare range and fragrance from Histoires de Parfums will also complement the store’s all round offering.

Boys in the Hood-ies – Quemondo

imageOnce considered just sportswear, hooded tops can now be found in the chicest of wardrobes and the most cutting-edge of retailers – the ‘hoodie’ as it’s more crudely known is more ubiquitous than ever, reinforcing and re-defining the return of street culture as a fashion influencer in off-duty style.image

You can now embrace your inner hoodie with Quemondo, who have appropriated sportswear fabrics and silhouettes to create a new collection which channels the sartorial spirit of the street, while remaining true to a Swedish fashion heritage.

Quemondo like to compare their approach to the humble hooded tops to what Mercedes is to cars or what Apple is to MP3s.

Quality, comfort and detail is at the core of their signature, incorporating the key elements of Scandinavian design, focusing on versatility, fit and fabric, to offer a range of fashion, sports and casual hoodies which combine functionality with modern clean lines, and a stylish urban aesthetic.

Selling exclusively online, the brand has directly engaged with the fashion revolution in digital e-commerce, operating without any intermediary or middle retailer, which results in reducing operating costs and offering savings to the customer, that’s you.

Screen Shot 2014-11-17 at 16.34.18Bugatti, is more of a brand known for is Supercars than its Super wares but following the successful launch of its lifestyle collection in Milan last year, this is the next major step in the French super sports car manufacturer’s brand extension strategy.  The origins of the Bugatti brand lie in art and the innovative pursuit of technical excellence. Company founder Ettore Bugatti successfully combined an artistic approach with his technical concepts. He created vehicles that were ahead of their time and are now among the most valuable classic cars in the world

The first destination chosen, was London’s exclusive address of Brompton Road, Knightsbridge, home to such illustrious temples of style as Harvey Nichols and Harrods.

Screen Shot 2014-11-17 at 16.35.15The store and its collection reflect the identity of Bugatti. In keeping with the brand’s motto of “Art, Forme, Technique”, the store conveys Bugatti’s exceptional technical performance and the exclusive luxury of the brand. “A Bugatti is a design masterpiece and a unique work of automotive engineering. A Bugatti is synonymous with great tradition and cutting-edge modernity. This is also the image we want our boutiques to convey,” according to Ferrari.

The current Winter collection includes two main lines centred on men’s fashion: the elegant and luxurious EB – Ettore Bugatti Collection and the sports luxury Bugatti – Performance Luxury Collection featuring high-tech materials. In addition to these two lines, Bugatti also offers a Tailor Made / Bespoke range exclusively for Bugatti customers, along with limited-edition capsule collections, such as the recent Bugatti Legends collection.

Anerkjendt – No other way of saying it

Screen Shot 2014-10-06 at 14.12.43I recently attended a really useful press event held by House of Fraser where they took a chosen few key UK Bloggers through a selection of their key news Stories, trends and great brands they have for this coming season. One of which, was this little beauty, Anerkjendt.

Originating from Denmark, contemporary menswear brand Anerkjendt focuses on crafting easy-going clothes for laid-back guys. With an unmistakably Scandinavian style, the brand’s designs are always created with functionality and unique details in-mind, drawing inspiration from nature in print and colours. The result is an original collection of relaxed jackets, printed shirts and t-shirts which are comfortable and easy to wear.

Screen Shot 2014-10-06 at 14.11.33For this season the brand looks to both the past and is forward looking to gain inspiration. The first angle of the collection is a 90’s grunge sort of rock and roll theme with only black, white, grey and red colours. Very clean style with sharp graphics.Whereas the second story has its roots in looking back in time and bring that look to new levels, still with a good sense of humour and classics. It using the idea of Cowboys and Indians as its narrative, the colour palette you find blue, green, burgundy and greys mixed with indigo and denims.

The last part of this collection is a playful mix of patterns and colours. With inspiration from Russian patterns and Scandinavian street style you get an interesting look. You will find a combination of flowers, stripes and graphics in a more outgoing colour palette.
