Making good of a bad situation – Riz Boardshorts

Riz, is the sea-loving swimwear brand creating sartorial elegance, from 100% plastic bottles.

An estimated 8 Million tons of plastic enters our oceans every year. There are 5.25 trillion pieces of plastic waste estimated to be in our oceans. 269,000 tons float, 4 billion microfibers per km² dwell below the surface. 70% of our debris sinks into the ocean’s ecosystem, 15% floats, and 15% lands on our beaches.

Riz offers elegantly tailored and ethically sourced, the shorts function perfectly in or out of the water. What’s more, the pioneering ‘Rizcycle’ scheme offers free repairs (for life), or returns to resellor recycle (with a 25% discount on your next pair). £1 from the sale of every pair of shorts also goes directly to the Marine Conservation Society.

Riz Smith, the founder and Creative Director, is a London-based designer and surfer. After years of designing swim and beachwear for various global brands, he became acutely aware of the need for something better in the swimwear market.

Meanwhile, old school friend Ali had recently returned from sailing across the Pacific where he witnessed first-hand the crisis of plastic pollution facing our oceans. Together they decided there was a need for something better and more honest in the swimwear market, and Riz the brand was born.
