The perfect balance between style and cycling wear – Vulpine

Screen Shot 2014-07-17 at 22.17.59With the excitement of the Tour de France, visiting this country’s fair shores still palatably fresh in the air and as I’m sure the more eagled eyed of our loyal readers will be asking themselves, Vulpine, Vulpine, that name sounds familiar. Well, yes it should be as back in February we reported on an inspired collaboration between, the wonderful Mr Oliver Spencer and this wonderful brand Vulpine. Where they teamed up to launch a limited edition tailored cycling blazer, designed with the urban cyclist in mind.

The man behind this cycling revolution is, Nick Hussey, who became obsessed by cycling watching the Tour de France as a kid and who like the great Sir Paul Smith, raced until injury cut short not particularly promising career in cycling.

After a dalliance into achieving a Sports Science and Physiology degree from Liverpool Uni, Nick found himself travelling over the East Lancs to Manchester where he found himself booking world-class DJs and promoting some of the most successful Club nights of the 90’s. After he, rather unsurprisingly, became tired of wearing a bullet proof jacket and having revolvers put in his face, ahhh the Manchester Club scene of the 90’s, what a time, Hussey reacquainted himself with his first love, that being cycling.

A perfect balance of the technical know how of cycling apparel but without compromising one jot on style and taste and in doing so offers examples of great pieces which undoubtably will become wardrobe favourites. These pieces aren’t just for the urban cyclist, these look equally at home, meeting friends for a drink, a smart casual business meeting or just when you don’t know what else to wear but wanna look good. Oliver Spencer X Vulpine, These Clothes make the Man

imageBritish menswear designer Oliver Spencer has teamed up with cycling apparel specialists Vulpine to launch a limited edition tailored cycling blazer. Designed with the urban cyclist in mind, the piece perfectly combines the style and aesthetic of Oliver Spencer with the technicality and cycling expertise of Vulpine.

The first ever performance wear collaboration from Spencer, the partnership came about by an introduction through a mutual friend of Oliver’s and Vulpine founder, Nick Hussey. Nick had long been an admirer of Oliver’s ethos and design and with Spencer being a keen cyclist himself who wanted something to wear on the road and in the office; their friendship grew to become a collaborative venture.

Oliver led the overall design with his knowledge of fit, Great British style and manufacturing whilst Vulpine advised on performance specific cuts along with subtle, practical features, making the ideal jacket for the modern cyclist.

Launching this month, the navy jacket features water resistant coPon fabric in a classic crisp cut with added breathability and technicality to withstand the elements. Detailing such as reflective neck lining, reverse cuffs and rear vent allow the wearer to be easily visible on the road. Similarly, the arms and back of the jacket have been cut slightly longer than traditional outerwear to suit the riding position, whilst still maintaining the style and fit synonymous with the Oliver Spencer brand.
