Following three successful years as a creative consultant to the brand, G-Star RAW  welcomes Aitor Throup as its Executive Creative Director. The RAW Research collection was born from G-Star’s internal innovation lab, developed and led by the British designer. Focused on experimenting with product design by clashing tradition and innovation, the laboratory symbolises an endeavour to find new ways of crafting denim. The result: the first RAW Research collection.

G-Star RAW continues its innovative take on denim with the latest and most directional capsule collection from to hit select stores early December. Both the studio and the brand are committed to imagining and creating new ways of story-telling through object design and the production of related materials. “My new position at G-Star will also allow me to reflect my approach to product design and story-telling as well as some of the practices and systems which we will continue to utilise within my own studio” said The Royal College of Art graduate.

By using supreme Italian selvedge denim fabric for every single piece, the capsule collection explores the two polar opposite states in the life of a denim garment: rigid, untreated raw denim on one extreme and bleached-white denim, where only a hint of indigo remains, on the other.

Taking a bite out of the Apple – 10th Anniversary of Marc Newson for G-Star

Screen Shot 2014-09-25 at 07.25.34With the news of designer extraordinaire, Marc Newson’s appointment as Senior Vice President of Design at Apple, the industrial designer has also released the 10-year anniversary collection of G-Star by Marc Newson. First presented at the London Design Museum earlier this year, the capsule range features twelve limited edition leather jackets, signed by Newson, exclusive to luxury e-tailer oki-ni.com

In a world of one-off collaborations, denim specialist brand G-Star RAW and Australian industrial designer Marc Newson have reasonable cause for celebration. Since 2004, the G-Star by Marc Newson capsule collections have become renowned for their architectural constructions, distinct graphics, streetwear references, and premium fabrications. The 10-year Anniversary Collection is no exception, offering everything and more that fans have come to love from G-Star RAW by Marc Newson.

The collection highlight is the Reversible Tour Jacket. The changeable bomber jacket features a collection of patches that represent the decade’s worth of collaboration graphics. When turned from the silver bowling sateen, a black quilted side is revealed for a minimalist alternative. Newson said at the launch.

The inspiration was simply to identify and focus on what we felt were the iconic motifs over the last ten years and to represent them visually in a single piece, which could itself become iconic within the context of our history.”

An exclusive version of the piece has been created for oki-ni.com. Produced in premium leather, though not reversible, the limited edition 12-piece run are each numbered, and signed by Newson.

The best of Japanese selvedge denim is also, as always, an essential part of the range. Cut to Newson’s take on the traditional 5-pocket jeans, the 5-Pocket Denim Slim, retains workwear inspiration with boxy back pockets and rivet-trimmed front pockets. Newson’s enduring fascination with uniform dressing is also apparent. Designed to be treated like your denim, without ironing or dry-cleaning, the Seven Day Suit features luxury wool pieces to suit every occasion.

Tees and sweats in premium cottons are identifiably G-Star by Marc Newson, with simple yet bold, varsity-inspired artwork. The collection is completed with the Dalm and Nuag prints, an abstracted take on traditional spots and stripes that add intriguing contrast to the cleaner graphics.

Get on your horse and ride off into the sunset – 6 of the best Western Shirts

image“A man’s got to have a code, a creed to live by.” – The late and great Mr John Wayne. Now there never was a greater cowboy of the silver screen then the inimitable big John Wayne whether it was  Fort Apache, El Dorado, Rio Grande or True Grit you didn’t mess with this man and if your were stupid enough to do so, you could expect one thing, Trouble.

The look of the traditional Cowboy whether it be the Marlboro Man, the classic American dream manifested in a check shirt and denim jeans all summed up in Marion Mitchell Morrison, otherwise known as John Wayne, this look is a timeless masculine theme. Epitomising this great trend has to be the Western shirt or Cowboy shirt, which so easily looks great with a pair of jeans or cords as it does giving a less formal edge to the humble suit.

As always we are here to advise you on 6 of the very best that are currently available to you, well right now.

Like a good single breasted black suit, every man should have a decent Chambray shirt at his disposal And they don’t come much better then this example by Polo Ralph Lauren.

Now this great lil shirt also comes in a gold colour way but I thought if you are going to invest in a shirt of this nature, you probably want to tone things down somewhat. It’s a brilliantly literal interpretation of the Cowboy shirt and is from no other then TOPMAN.

To finish this post we’ve gone for a more versatile shirt this time by G-Star so whether your home on the range or just plain home, this ticks many of the boxes with this trend.
