For Autumn 2016 John Lewis Menswear is introducing, PRESENTING; a unique curation of three emerging menswear brands, which brings a distinctly Scandinavian slant to this British institution. A favourite of Britain’s everywhere, John Lewis will be stocking a trend led selection of designs from Libertine-Libertine, Samsøe & Samsøe Menswear and J Lindeberg, which, until now, for the majority can only found in select independent boutiques around the UK.

imageLibertine-Libertine, was founded in 2009 and has quickly established itself a reputation for offering a clean minimalist aesthetic crafting the perfect balance between simplicity and cultured sophistication.

imageSamsøe & Samsøe creates unique and undeniably recognizable Scandinavian fashion. The brand continuously develops attractive, market-oriented and international designs, supported by the best essential products.

imageLastly the luxury Scandinavian brand J Lindeberg, this could be described as the most premium part of the PRESENTING offering for this season. Founded in Stockholm in 1996, by Johan Lindeberg, it offers outstanding products for a contemporary active lifestyle.

John Lewis will offer a point of difference on the high street by stocking these exciting brands as an introduction to its customers who may not be previously familiar with the collections. The carefully curated selection of products have been chosen in line with key current trends in menswear and will launch in three focused stages throughout the season.

It will launch the three brand’s interpretations of the Rollneck knit in September for protection against that Autumn chill, a Bomber edit in October to combat the transeasonal elements and a elegantly masculine curation of Longline Overcoats in November for the lead up to the Yuletide.

Beth Pettet, Buyer for John Lewis Menswear Brands explained the concept as, “We are delighted to be working with 3 brands who are relatively new to the UK market but who are bringing an expert eye to the current trends within menswear. This season’s Presenting collection underlines our ambition to cater for the fashion customer who is both individual and confident in his style. The range combines premium quality clothing with a fresh and exciting take on the key items of the season.”

imageThis Autumn there isn’t really a key coat or jacket that stands out as a leading figure or star buy, instead we have a whole host of options to choose from, whether that be the traditional crombie style overcoat, the Parka, the trench, military inspired but alot of them are great for the depths of Winter. What about when its get a bit chilly or there starts to be a nip in the air ? In the Fashion Industry this is called a transitional piece, an item of clothing that can see you through those inbetween periods when the weather isn’t too hot, chance would a fair thing, or too cold. Today I have a great example for you the BOMBER JACKET, rocked and made famous by the likes of Steve McQueen in the Great Escape, JFK busted his with far more style then then successor George W and how could we forget Ryan Gosling in the great ‘Drive’. Take a look at these great examples.

imageAs part of the landmark celebrations around John Lewis’ 150th birthday this year, You surely can’t have missed that TV Ad by now ? The department store is collaborating with world-renowned designer Orla Kiely on her debut menswear collection. The monumental celebrations, which will see exclusive collaborations by the likes of Barbour, Levi’s and Hackett, amongst others across the retailer and will cement 150 years for John Lewis at the pinnacle of British ‘shopkeeping’.

Internationally lauded for her striking prints and use of unique motifs and textures, the 19 piece range takes inspiration from the 1950’s Mediterranean styling from film, The Talented Mr Ripley. Featuring printed shirts, cotton poplin shorts, swim shorts, pigment washed jersey sweatshirts and a range of accessories including caps, belts and canvas beach bags, the collection features colourways from the designer’s signature ‘Stem Print’ palette in mustard, brick red and elephant grey. Anchoring the collection are two classic prints from the designer’s archive – ‘Sea Sketch’ in navy blue and ‘Ditsy Regatta’ in grey and brown – each in an illustrated, hand drawn style.

“For my debut menswear line I wanted to create something true to my established design signature – versatile matching sets that achieve a clean, confident and contemporary look. Working closely with the John Lewis team from start to finish has made the process an absolute joy. Happy Birthday John Lewis!” Says Orla Kiely

Screen Shot 2013-06-03 at 19.19.35Oliver Sweeney is somewhat of a legend when it comes to Mens footwear, from the age of 16 when he ran away from home and lived for a time on the Circle Line in the London Underground, no that isn’t a mistake on my part, you read it right. This is where he saw an advert in a Shoemakers window looking for an apprentice, the rest they say is history.

Since its foundation in 1989, his signature company, has always made its own path through the industry pitfalls. With a good eye for sharp but always comfortable footwear. Built around their unique Anatomical Last, which mimics, as accurately as possible, the profile of the human foot. A celebrated design created after years of research, it’s sculpted to give support to the arch, the instep points to the big toe, like the real foot. A gentle twist through its length simulates the natural shape of the foot, and helps reduce rolling to the outside of the foot.

From now until June 24th, Sweeney has opened a pop up shop housed within one of the UK’s most well known and trusted retailers John Lewis. During this time, in it’s flagship Oxford Street store, the shop in shop will stock a wide selection of their Footwear, Outerwear and Accessories. Throughout its duration Sweeney will be bringing their unique shoe tattoo service, what tattoo a shoe ? Poppycock ! No, no Oliver Sweeney will be offering you the chance to create a pair of shoes with your own exclusive, indelible mark. Perfect for commemorating your wedding day this summer or for letting your dad know that he’s one of a kind this Father’s Day. Tattoos can be of any design, size and location, the only recommendation being to choose a tan or light coloured shoe or accessory to ensure the best outcome, but hopefully, that goes without say, yeah ? And the tattoo service will be free of charge at John Lewis with every pair of Oliver Sweeney shoes or tan accessory purchased.

Good day my dear and trusted style gazers, as the weather is being as predictable as my child’s nightly sleep patterns I thought I would look at a trend which can be worn rain of shine, in the words of 80’s family groovers 5Star. Camo or Camouflage as you may know it has been floating around as a menswear trend for quite a few seasons now. Hopefully, you will have been a style consumer of great foresight and have invested in a piece or two of the camo variety over the past couple of seasons. As you see from  below for Spring 2013 literally everyone has interpreted and tailored camouflage to their own likings, offering us, it in every conservable item of clothing, colour combination and from traditional Action Man-esque patterns to 21st Century state of the art stealth techno camo to even neon, floral, in your face ones.

I’ve sourced the great information Superhighway from start to finish looking for some of the better examples of this trend. Now please heed this warning, akin to not feeding the Mogwai after midnight, do not, I repeat do not wear to much of this trend at the same time or you’ll run the risk of looking like a reserve from the T.A. on civilian maneuverers, once again the maxim of less is more applies.
